Oahu Beekeepers Collective app privacy notice

This notice explains what the Oahu Beekeepers Collective Android app does with information. The app keeps your requests on your phone. Nothing leaves your phone unless you choose to open your email app, your phone dialer or copy a message yourself.

This page covers the app. Section 16 explains how this website works.

1. Who publishes the app

Illustration: A honey jar beside a flowering hibiscus branch.

The Oahu Beekeepers Collective app (Android package com.oahubeekeepers.honey) is published for Oahu Beekeepers Collective, a trade name of OAHU BEEKEEPERS COLLECTIVE LLC, a Hawaii limited liability company. Mailing address: 164 Poloke Pl, Honolulu, HI 96822-5008, United States. In this notice, "we" and "the Collective" mean Oahu Beekeepers Collective.

2. What this notice covers

Illustration: A wreath of ʻōhiʻa lehua around an open clearing.

This notice covers the Android app. Section 16 also describes the Collective's website, which works differently. It does not cover your email app, your phone service or any other app you open from this app; those follow their own privacy terms.

3. The short version

Gouache and ink plate of a wooden honey dipper resting across a small dish holding one drop of honey
Illustration: A honey dipper and a single drop of honey.

You can browse honey, honeycomb and beeswax goods and prepare requests without an account. Your requests and any details you type stay in the app's storage on your phone. The app has no internet access, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. The Collective only receives something if you send it yourself, for example from your email app.

4. Information you type into the app

Illustration: A pencil and a blank gift tag.

When you prepare a request, you can enter the items, jar sizes and quantities you want, a pickup, delivery or shipping preference, a wanted-by date, an occasion, a gift-tag message, a shop name for shop orders, notes, and your name, email address and phone number. Only your name is required to save a request; the other fields are optional unless a request type needs them, such as a shop name for a shop order.

5. Where it is kept

Illustration: A closed jar of paper slips on ti leaves.

Saved requests are stored in a database inside the app's private storage on your phone. If you turn on "Remember my details", your name, email and phone are also kept in the app's settings on your phone so the next request can be filled in for you. The app also keeps a short log of which contact app you opened for a request and when, so you can see it later.

6. What the app does not collect

Gouache and ink plate of an empty open woven basket beside a hibiscus branch
Illustration: An empty woven basket.

The app does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or files. It has no user account, no advertising identifier, no analytics or crash-reporting service and no third-party tracking code. It does not read the messages you send or the calls you make.

7. No internet access

Illustration: Honeycomb under a glass cloche.

The app does not request Android's internet permission. The catalog, pictures, honey guide and this notice are built into the app, so browsing and saving requests work without a connection. The app cannot send anything to the Collective or to us over the internet by itself.

8. When you contact the Collective

Gouache and ink plate of an unsealed blank envelope with a sprig of ʻōhiʻa lehua in the flap and a honeybee nearby
Illustration: An unsealed envelope with a blossom sprig.

When you tap Email, the app opens your email app with the Collective's address and your request already filled in. Nothing is sent until you send it from your email app, and you can change or cancel it there. When you tap Call, your phone's dialer opens with the Collective's number; the call only starts if you place it. When you tap Copy, the request text is placed on your phone's clipboard for you to paste elsewhere. Opening one of these apps does not mean the Collective has received your request.

9. How the Collective uses what you send

Gouache and ink plate of a honeybee gathering nectar from a red ʻōhiʻa lehua blossom
Illustration: A honeybee at an ʻōhiʻa lehua blossom.

If you send a request by email or share it on a call, the Collective uses it to reply to you, confirm what is available and the total, and arrange pickup, delivery or shipping. It keeps what you send for as long as it needs it for that purpose and for its ordinary business records.

10. Sharing

Gouache and ink plate of a tightly closed yellow hibiscus bud wrapped in its green sepals
Illustration: A closed hibiscus bud.

The app does not share your information with anyone. When you send an email or place a call, your email provider and phone carrier handle that message or call under their own terms. The Collective does not sell the information you send it.

11. Backups and moving to a new phone

Gouache and ink plate of a young ʻōhiʻa seedling in its own clay pot, shown in a cut-away view of the roots
Illustration: A seedling rooted in its own pot.

The app is set so that Android does not copy its saved requests or remembered details into cloud backups or device-to-device transfers. If you move to a new phone, your saved requests stay on the old phone and do not come with you.

12. Keeping and deleting

Gouache and ink plate of small garden shears beside a trimmed hibiscus stem and fallen petals
Illustration: Garden shears and a trimmed stem.

Your saved requests stay on your phone until you delete them. You can delete one request, delete all saved requests, or tap "Forget my details" in Settings. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app removes everything it stored. Deleting a request in the app does not recall an email you already sent or cancel anything you arranged with the Collective.

13. Security

Illustration: A brass key and a latched wooden box.

Android keeps each app's private storage separate from other apps. The app does not add its own encryption on top of that, so anyone who can unlock your phone could open the app and see your saved requests. A screen lock helps protect them.

14. Children

Illustration: Honey jars on a shelf above a toy.

The app is meant for adults arranging honey and gifts. It is not directed to children under 13, and the app itself does not send any information to anyone.

15. Your choices and rights

Illustration: One stem, two different flowers.

You decide what to type, what to save and whether to contact the Collective. You can edit or delete saved requests at any time and turn off "Remember my details". To ask about information you have sent to the Collective, or to ask it to correct or delete that information, contact the Collective using the details at the end of this notice.

16. The Oahu Beekeepers Collective website

Illustration: A window open onto green hills.

The Collective's website is a set of static pages. Its request form does not store or send anything by itself: it opens your email app with a message you can review and send. The website has no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. Whoever hosts the website may keep standard technical logs, such as your IP address and the pages requested, for security and operation.

17. Changes to this notice

If the app's handling of information changes, this notice will be updated and the effective date above will change. A new version of the app includes its current notice.
